Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE)
This course is for Teachers, Nannies & Caregivers.

OVERVIEW

Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) is an integral part of Basic Education delivery in Nigeria. This ECCDE learning stage prepares young learners (ages 3- 5) with cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills to want to learn and transition to primary school. It is extremely important to not only prepare future teachers at the Colleges of Education (COEs) to teach at the ECCDE level but also to prepare a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme that will continue to upgrade the skills, knowledge and attitude of ECCDE teachers to work with young learners.

This ECCDE-CPD programme aims to provide the ECCDE teachers with different theories and practices of learning such that they are able to use a combination to support the learning needs of each individual child. The ECCDE-CPD programme has seven topics that can be taken individually and in no particular order. We utilize a blended approach of face-to-face training with self-study and on-the-Job support and cover the four essential learning theories from 1950’s to 2000s. The methodology is explained in the methodology section below .

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The goal is to support teaching and non-teaching staff at the Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) to prepare young learners to enjoy learning and successfully transition into primary school. The objectives are to strengthen the capacity of ECCDE teachers to work with the caregivers and nannies to support young learners to: a. Promote the holistic development of the young learners; b. Foster socialization ability; and c. Build enthusiasm for learning.
